I'm having sharp pains in my cervical area. What's going on?

For a few hours I've been having sharp pains in my cervix. Enough to make me jump or twinge. I haven't had many contractions and they've been irregular (braxton hicks, I think- I don't know what "real" ones feel like). Changing position doesn't seem to help. I read that I should be concerned... But I don't know what these pains are...??? What do you think? I'm 33 weeks and my mother is determined the baby is going to be 4 weeks early like I was, so maybe these are early signs of labor, the start from 1-4 weeks out. (???)
