How effective are flame throwers at repelling attacks by cannibal zombies? Zombie flambeau anyone?

It might be fun to watch them burn, if you are a pyromaniac. This might make them even more hideous-looking, murderous, and hungry. But this will not destroy them. You would be gleefully wasting precious time better spent getting away or finding more effective ways of defending yourself or destroying them altogether. And whatever you do, do not try to run away backwards while watching them, or trip and fall like those ridiculous, sniveling girly-girls in the movies. If you have to fight, then fight. If you have to run, then run.
